Empty Bowls was held during Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week on Thursday, November 19, 2009 and was a tremendous success. OPRIG (Ohio Public Research and Interest Group) co-sponsored the event. Oberlin Community Services kindly lent their building and the Oberlin College Pottery Co-Op supplied us with beautiful hand-made bowls which participants received with their meal.
Soup, bread and drinks were provided by Panera Bread, Brio Tuscan Grill, Olive Garden, Presti's and McDonalds. In addition, numerous area merchants donated raffle and door prizes. Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) volunteers, students and the community-at-large stood inline to receive their bowl of soup and bread to simulate the daily experience
of our hungry and homeless.
The wait paid off as over $2,700 was raised for Family Promise.
Family Promise of Lorain County would like to extend its heartfelt thanks
to the sponsors, donors and participants for their contributions and we
hope to see you all next year!
